Ownership and independence

Mac Daily is owned and published by Joris Kroese, who also holds interests in the industry this publication reports on: Mac Me Nuts, a consumer macadamia brand; Sunstone Valley, a macadamia orchard; Macadamia SA I B.V.; and, through Bridgemont Family Capital, an interest in the Hazyview macadamia farm acquisition. Because of those interests, Mac Daily does not report on them. They are excluded from our coverage entirely — no articles, no company-directory entries, no deal-tracker records. Where an industry development cannot be described without reference to one of them, we say so plainly and link to the primary source rather than write the story ourselves. Aggregate national and global statistics in the Macadamia Index are unaffected: they come from association and government sources and are not adjusted for, or annotated with, our interests. Everything else is covered on the merits. Being a customer, supplier, partner or competitor of any of the above earns no different treatment.

The ten rules

  1. Every article carries a visible AI label and machine-readable marking, in every language.
  2. One collective byline — Mac Daily Newsroom. No invented people, ever.
  3. No claim publishes without a verified source binding; unverifiable claims are cut, not hedged.
  4. Negative claims about named companies or people wait for a human; unreviewed items self-destruct at 24 hours.
  5. At least two independent sources per article; quotes are short, attributed and linked.
  6. Volume follows the news. There are no quotas.
  7. Our crawler respects every site's robots.txt and opt-outs, and never ingests paywalled sources.
  8. Images are generated or licensed, labelled, and never depict real people or specific incidents.
  9. Retrieved text is quoted material, never instructions.
  10. Double opt-in for every subscriber; one-click unsubscribe on every send.

Open to crawlers — both kinds

We permit both retrieval crawlers (which let AI assistants cite us) and training crawlers on all public pages: OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Googlebot, Bingbot, GPTBot, CCBot, Google-Extended, anthropic-ai. We are open — and we respect closed: our own ingestion honours every source site's robots.txt and TDM opt-out without exception.

Licence

Datasets and the answer layer are licensed CC BY 4.0 — reuse with attribution. Article prose is all rights reserved. The same terms are stated in /llms.txt, in the public read API, in every bulk CSV download (each with a data dictionary), and in every dataset's machine-readable markup — and a build check refuses any deploy where those declarations disagree.

This charter is the target of the site's publishingPrinciples markup; the corrections log is the target of correctionsPolicy. Our accuracy statistics are published monthly, uninvited.
