Editorial responsibility
- Publisher-of-record
- Joris Kroese
- Contact
- j.kroese@mac-daily.com
Joris Kroese carries editorial responsibility for everything published under the Mac Daily masthead — the editorial charter, the corrections policy, and any question of accuracy, fairness or independence. Editorial complaints reach him directly.
Editorial responsibility here means accountability for what is published. It is not a claim that a human wrote or reviewed each article before publication — see AI-generated content below.

These figures are stated for the period since launch and are reviewed annually. If Mac Daily ever receives state advertising or public funding, the amount and the source will be published here.
The owner’s other interests, and what we will not cover
The beneficial owner holds interests in the macadamia industry that Mac Daily reports on. We name them rather than manage them quietly:
- Mac Me Nuts — consumer macadamia brand
- Sunstone Valley — macadamia orchard, Hazyview, South Africa
- Macadamia SA I B.V. — the publisher itself, which also holds macadamia trading interests
- Bridgemont Family Capital — interest in the Hazyview macadamia farm acquisition
Mac Daily does not cover these entities. Not favourably, not critically, not neutrally. They are excluded from news coverage, from rankings, from the Global Macadamia Index as a source, and from events listings. This exclusion is permanent and is not waived for a news event, however significant. Where an industry story cannot be told without naming one of them, we state the interest in the article rather than omitting the fact. Sunstone Valley may have a factual company-directory listing; this does not change the editorial exclusions above. Other listed interests remain excluded from the company directory.
The full editorial charter is at the editorial charter.
AI-generated content
Mac Daily’s articles are researched, written and fact-checked by an automated AI pipeline, not by human journalists.
We disclose this under art. 50(4) of the AI Act. We do not rely on the exemption in that article for content that has undergone human review with a person assuming editorial responsibility — although a named human does hold editorial responsibility, we consider a reader entitled to know how the text in front of them was produced, and we label it accordingly.
Every page carries the standing masthead disclosure, and every article carries a machine-readable marking (IPTC digitalSourceType), in every language we publish in. How the pipeline works, what it is permitted to do, where its sources come from and how errors are caught is documented at the AI disclosure page.
Images carry the same marking. We publish no synthetic photographs, and every image records its origin, its kind and — where one was used — the model and prompt it was made from. That policy is at our imagery page.
Corrections are published, dated and permanent at the corrections log. We do not silently edit a published article to remove an error.
Content, crawling and reuse
Copyright in Mac Daily’s editorial content rests with Macadamia SA I B.V. unless otherwise stated. Data published in the Global Macadamia Index is made available under the terms stated on the relevant dataset page.
We permit AI and search crawlers on our own content. Mac Daily makes no reservation of rights under art. 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790 for text and data mining of its editorial content. Our robots.txt and the crawler policy set out in the editorial charter state exactly what is permitted; nothing further needs to be requested from us.
In return, our own ingestion honours other publishers’ robots.txt and their machine-readable TDM opt-outs. If you operate a site and believe our crawler has not respected your signal, write to info@mac-daily.com and we will correct it.
Mac Daily publishes editorial content and operates a public questions-and-answers service. Questions submitted through that service and their generated answers can appear in the community feed. Do not include personal or confidential information in a question.
Links to third-party sites are provided for reference. Those sites control their own content.
