Kenya retained its raw macadamia export ban ahead of the March 2025 harvest

A February 2025 report attributed the March 1 opening and continued export restriction to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe. This is a historical account, not current export guidance.

The Star reported on 27 February 2025 that Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe had announced a 1 March opening for harvesting mature macadamia nuts. The minister said the ban on exporting raw and in-shell nuts would remain in place.

The report attributed the policy's legal basis to the AFA Act and the Oil Crops (Nuts and Crops) Regulations of 2020. It also reported Kagwe's request for growers to register through the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management System, known as KIAMIS.

The meeting directed the authorities to enforce dealer registration and licensing and to introduce mandatory shipment inspections. Guidelines for X-ray scanners were to be developed. These were announced measures; this account does not establish that every inspection or scanning arrangement was subsequently implemented.

This corrected archive account relies on one ministry announcement carried by The Star, not independent confirmation of the policy's effects. Consult current official instructions before making a shipment decision; this article describes the February 2025 announcement.

Previously: The archive used a broad, truncated claim record for several assertions and included an unsupported later follow-up, producer ranking and stray numbering.
