Mozambique’s 2024–25 macadamia export target: forecast, not outturn

The government expected more than 6,000 tonnes from Maputo and Niassa. A separate AgDevCo announcement documents investment in Manica, rather than confirming that export target.

An ivory folded-paper boat rests on an ochre surface before a blue-green landscape, with stylised green fruit and an open brown shell at the margins; an export-plan metaphor.

In March 2025, Mozambique’s government expected macadamia exports from Maputo and Niassa to bring in around 2 billion meticais during the 2024–25 agricultural season. Lusa reported a target of just over 6,000 tonnes from those two provinces, attributing it to a government representative.

Those figures were a forecast, not a recorded export result. The report did not specify an in-shell or kernel basis, or moisture content. They therefore cannot be compared directly with crop figures that use a stated product and moisture basis.

Separate investment evidence concerns Manica, outside the two provinces in that forecast. In a release distributed on 1 December 2023, AgDevCo said it had finalised a US$10 million mezzanine debt investment in Dowson, a Sussundenga-based macadamia and avocado producer.

The announcement described 270 hectares of macadamias and 174 hectares of avocados already planted under irrigation, with a plan to expand production to 1,000 hectares over five years. That target covered the mixed-crop operation; it was not a claim of 1,000 hectares of macadamias or confirmation that expansion had been completed.

This archive account corrects the investment announcement’s year from 2024 to 2023. AgDevCo’s statement supports the investment context, not independent corroboration of the government’s export forecast. No achieved 2024–25 export total is established by these sources.

Corrections

  • materialOrigin not recorded

Clearly attributed the 2024–25 forecast, distinguished it from achieved exports and separate Manica investment, corrected the issuer announcement to 1 December 2023, preserved mixed-crop expansion limits and replaced the diagram with a labelled hypothetical illustration. Original publication identity, dates, media and history remain retained.

Previously: The archive presented an export target without sufficient structured source bindings or archive metadata, dated the AgDevCo announcement to 2024, and used an unrelated orchard-spacing diagram.
