AFA brought Kenya’s 2026 macadamia harvest reopening forward to 1 February
The regulator’s reported decision brought the seasonal opening forward from 15 February, while warning that maturity still differed between growing zones.

Kenya's Agriculture and Food Authority brought the macadamia harvesting and trading window forward to 1 February 2026. FreshPlaza's report, citing Capital Business and an AFA statement, said the original closure ran from 1 December 2025 to 15 February 2026.
AFA said it surveyed crop maturity from 19 to 23 January. The reported findings distinguished largely mature nuts in lower-altitude areas from largely immature nuts in higher-altitude tea-growing zones. Maturity also differed between varieties.
The decision should not be read as approval to harvest every orchard. According to the report, reopening allowed harvesting where maturity benchmarks had been met while restrictions remained in immature zones. AFA cautioned farmers and traders against premature harvesting.
This is a historical account of the January 2026 announcement, not permission to harvest in the current season. The reporting traces to one AFA statement; FreshPlaza and Capital Business are not counted as separate regulatory origins.
