Kernel stocks are shaping the macadamia buying calendar
Dated September reporting from a UK supplier and South African growers explains why inventory and forward cover matter alongside harvest size.

For macadamia growers and processors planning sales, harvest size is only part of the story. Stock already bought by importers can influence when the next order arrives, even while orchards continue producing.
UK ingredient supplier Chelmer Foods' 18 September market report describes abundant kernel supply, cautious purchasing and elevated inventories. It singles out South African Style 0 and Style 4L kernels and says many UK importers, European traders and food manufacturers are already covered well into the first half of 2027.
That is the supplier's market assessment, rather than a published transaction-price series. Chelmer describes a gap between bids and offers and says pressure on wholesale prices has not yet fully reached retail. Lower prices at one step in the chain therefore do not automatically mean faster sales throughout it.
Separate reporting by The Macadamia on 3 September captures the producer side. Its interviews describe a larger South African crop and concern about carryover into 2027. One grower reported higher yield and good quality while expressing concern about prices: orchard output and the value of that output can move differently.
The two accounts come from different vantage points: a UK supplier's assessment of buying conditions and a South African magazine's original industry interviews. They offer context for stock and sales planning, but do not establish a common price benchmark. This brief makes no conversion between kernel grades, nut-in-shell output or moisture bases.
Our reading is to separate three questions when discussing the season: what product is available, how much forward cover a buyer already has, and when that buyer expects to need more. A large harvest alone answers none of the latter two.
This is a current reading of dated September reporting, not a new October price quote. The sources do not give a verified market-wide price floor or a timetable for recovery.

A disclosed conceptual stock-shadow and blank-calendar illustration now explains that relationship without a real price, inventory quantity or recovery date. Original prose and dates remain unchanged.
Previously: The prior lead image did not clearly communicate the relationship between forward stock cover and a buying calendar.
