Malawi's China access rule pairs macadamia imports with plant registration and shipment checks
The original 26 June 2025 announcement covers in-shell and shelled nuts, while requiring registered businesses, treatment and traceable certification. It does not establish clearance for an individual exporter.

For Malawi's macadamia exporters, China's original market-access announcement makes the production business and the shipment documentation part of the same process. GACC Announcement No.136, dated 26 June 2025, allowed imports that met its conditions with immediate effect. Permission for a product category was conditional; the document does not prove that a particular exporter or consignment has been cleared.
The covered products are macadamias grown in Malawi and processed there by drying, sorting and related operations for human consumption, either in shell or shelled. This matters when matching an offer to its product description: the announcement addresses both forms, rather than treating the market-access question as a kernel-only rule.
The business requirements come before an assumption about delivery. Production, processing and storage units must be recommended by the Malawian side and registered by the Chinese side. The final section says imports must come from businesses registered in China and directs readers to the customs website for the list. This report has not checked the current list or any individual company's entry.
Treatment is a separate condition. The original announcement requires fumigation before export to keep the nuts free of live insects, particularly storage pests. It also prohibits live insects, eggs and soil and specifies other unwanted material. This is a report of the stated requirement, not a treatment recipe: doses, treatment conditions and the appropriate technical process cannot be inferred from a market-access headline.
Packaging and certification carry the identity of the supply chain. Packages must carry Chinese or English traceability information, including the product, origin, processing business and its Chinese registration number, and the exporter's name and address. Following official inspection and quarantine, the Malawian side must issue a phytosanitary certificate for approved nuts. Its additional declaration identifies the business and registration number and refers to compliance with the bilateral protocol; treatment details must also appear in the certificate.
The practical distinction is between an issued access framework and evidence that a real shipment satisfies it. The source reviewed here is the original four-page Chinese announcement hosted by the China-Africa SPS Cooperation Information Network. The protocol date cited in it is 12 June 2025; the announcement's own date is 26 June 2025. Neither should be replaced by a later hosting or retrieval date.
This bounded reading does not establish subsequent amendments, today's enterprise registrations or a complete set of Malawi's domestic harvest, trade and quality rules. Buyers and exporters still need the applicable current requirements and the status of the actual business and shipment. The reviewed original is useful for identifying those separate checks, while leaving their present outcomes open.

A qualified close-up of an imagined closed carton and unmarked document sleeve now illustrates that relationship. Original article, all languages, dates and limitations remain unchanged.
Previously: The previous lead did not communicate the source-supported distinction between goods and their accompanying documentation.
